Employment Matters
While we have assisted employees with a number of employment grievances, our practice focuses primarily upon assisting employers and executives in navigating Louisiana’s non-compete laws, enforcing employment contracts, and other such employment issues that may arise in the corporate arena.
Noncompetition agreements, which are designed to permit businesses to limit the ability of former managers, employees, or executives from assisting competing businesses, are strictly controlled under Louisiana law, as Louisiana public policy discourages anything that inhibits the ability of its citizens from “exercising a lawful profession, trade or business of any kind.” Because of this, noncompetition contracts in Louisiana are unenforceable unless they meet the strict exceptions provided for by Louisiana law.
Whether you are an employer interested in drafting noncompetition contract or you are being asked to sign one, consulting with an attorney is always a wise decision. Because we assist both employers and employees in drafting, enforcing or disputing noncompetition employment agreements, you can count on us to guide you through this area of Louisiana law.
In addition to the foregoing, we also review and negotiate executive contracts, handle wage and termination disputes, and sexual harassment and discrimination claims. With respect to employee grievances, we are well versed in Louisiana laws created to protect employers involved in such disputes.
